Day 1: The Game Plan

Day 1: Serving #2 with shilajit, cardamom & rose-infused honey
Today is Day 1 of my raw milk fast. It's also a new moon, which is a time of new beginnings-- the start of a new cycle. So initiating the fast on this day seemed appropriate. I am planning to fast for at least the next 28 days (from new moon to new moon). I'm going to reassess the fast at that time and decide if I can keep going. If I continue to the following full moon, that would be July 4th, which also seems like an appropriately symbolic day to complete my fast. Independence Day.

The first thing I did after waking up was drink warm water with lemon and a dash of salt.

Then around 8:30am I had 2 cups of raw milk (gently heated).

Here's the game plan for the rest of the day:

Drink another 6 cups (8 cups total) of raw, whole milk (from Organic Pastures) and 1 cup of their raw kefir as a snack. As of now, my plan is to have 2 cups of milk every 4 hours or so, but I may adjust the schedule depending on what my hunger levels are like. Also, I will gently warm the milk before drinking it, because cold milk isn't great for digestion (per Ayurveda). I may also add some honey/maple syrup and spices like ginger, turmeric, or cardamom for some added flavor and health benefits. That should bring my daily caloric intake to around 1400 calories.

I will also be taking these daily supplements:
Protandim Trisynergizer (with 1st serving of milk)
Shilajit (with 2nd serving of milk)
Juice Plus+ Trio and Omega Blend (with afternoon herbal tea)

If my energy levels get really low, I'll let myself have some yerba mate. In a week or so, I'll reassess whether or not I want to eliminate caffeine completely.

And I'll drink as much herbal tea and water as I like.

So far I'm feeling really good. I teach a class at noon and then I'll have my second serving of milk. At first I was unsure about starting a blog about this fast, but I really like having this method of keeping myself accountable and recording the process. I can't wait to see how I feel 42 days from now!
