Day 2: I Am Hungry

Raw kefir with turmeric, ginger & maple syrup (aka my afternoon snack)

I woke up with a little headache, but that disappeared after drinking my warm lemon water (I added a tiny bit of salt and coconut oil). I taught a class this morning, which included 30min of light bodyweight exercise, and my energy levels felt fine. Interestingly, I didn't wake up hungry. I was able to do my workout on an empty stomach and didn't take my first serving of milk until around 11am. I'll take my second serving of milk after I finish this post.

I will admit that I was really hungry yesterday. I was reminded how tough the first few days of a fast are. My smell becomes heightened and even foods that aren't normally appetizing become mouth-watering. And of course, when I'm fasting, it seems like all my friends post photos of the most delicious looking food on their social media! 😂

I weighed myself and discovered that I have lost 3.5lbs since yesterday 😳 I'm sure that some of that was extra water weight from my period, which is just ending, but I found that immediate drop to be pretty extraordinary!

Dr. J. R. Crewe, of the Mayo Foundation (the forerunner of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN), wrote an article about the curative effects of milk, which was published in Certified Milk Magazine, January 1929. Here he describes how a raw milk diet assisted a patient with weight loss:

One patient reduced from 325 pounds to 284 in two weeks, on four quarts of milk a day, while her blood pressure was reduced from 220 to 170.

He also wrote:
In several instances, Osler (Principles and Practices of Medicine, by William Osler, MD eighth edition) speaks of milk as being nothing more than white blood. Milk resembles blood closely and is a useful agent for improving and making new and better blood. Blood is the chief agent of metabolism.
If you have the time, I recommend checking out the full article. Crewe goes into a lot of detail regarding the different medical conditions that were successfully treated with raw milk. Also, here are some excerpts from an interesting article that does a nice job of summarizing why raw milk is so beneficial:

Raw milk contains all 22 amino acids, including the eight essential amino acids needed for the complete metabolism and function of protein. This makes raw milk a perfect protein source, and especially good for growing children and bodybuilders. The proteins in processed milk, however, don’t fare as well. The milk’s biological value is reduced by 17 percent because the heating process damages at least two of these amino acids (lysine and histidine). Moreover, this damage to the amino acids’ identity negatively affects their absorption rate in the body.
Individuals with lactose intolerance cannot make [lactose], and thus cannot digest milk sugar. However, since raw milk (unlike treated milk) retains its lactose-digesting Lactobacillibacteria, people with lactose intolerance often have no problems drinking it.
Isn't it interesting that raw milk contains the necessary enzyme for proper digestion? Many people think they can't digest milk, but they don't realize that pasteurization is probably the problem. So if you are lactose intolerant, maybe give raw milk a try and see if that makes a difference.

OK. My stomach is growing. Time for more milk.
